The new Alexa Skill for the Deutsches Zentrum für barrierefreies Lesen (German Centre for Accessible Reading) – dzb lesen is now available. You may activate it here.

Alexa Skills let you interact with smart speakers and smartphones featuring the Alexa voice assistant by talking to them. These voice-controlled devices are especially useful to people who are blind or partially sighted. We think the new Alexa Skill will make it even easier to access books and audio-described films available through the dzb lesen.

What are the features of the dzb lesen Alexa Skill?

The skill lets you listen to talking books and audio-described films borrowed from the dzb lesen. You will need an Amazon Echo speaker or an Alexa-enabled smart speaker from another manufacturer. Alternatively, you may use the Alexa app available for iPhones and Android devices. The dzb lesen Alexa Skill can:

  • Resume playback of book or film recently played
  • List borrowed books and films
  • Play one of the listed books or films
  • Synchronise reading position with the DZB App for iPhone or Android

What do you need to use the DZB Skill?

In addition to your Alexa-enabled device, you will need your dzb lesen login information also used in the dzb lesen App for iPhone or Android. All dzb lesen readers may request login information. To do so, you may Email us at hoerbuecherei@dzblesen.de or call us at +49 341 7113116. Once you have borrowed your books or films from the library, you can listen to them. You may borrow books via the iPhone or Android app, via the dzb lesen website or by calling us.
