Version 1.1 of E-Kiosk, a magazine reading app by the Swiss Federation of the Blind is now available on the App Store and Google Play.
The update allows iOS and Android users to read magazine articles continuously. This works similarly to the music playback control via the buttons of a headset. Users can pause and continue reading of an article as well as skip to the next or previous article. This even works when the screen is locked, making it incredibly easy to read articles while keeping the smartphone in your pocket.
Implementing this new feature has not changed the user interface very much. Article view now includes a button to start and pause reading of the article and another button to select speech synthesizer settings. The latter can also be found on the Settings tab of the app. Additionally, the table of contents now contains a short summary of each article if available.
We enjoyed implementing the new article playback and think this new feature will make using the app easier and more comfortable.
